CourtTempo User Guide
Detailed instructions for setting up Player Groups, running sessions, handling waiting turns and court changes, reviewing history and sharing session reports.
Player Groups
Player Groups are reusable rosters. You can keep separate groups for different days, locations, skill levels, or regular sets of players.
Adding players
New players can be added while editing an existing group, from the Attendance screen after a group is selected, or while building a new group from a copy.
Copying a group
Tap Copy to use the selected group as the starting point for a new group. Give the new group a unique name. Everyone from the copied group starts selected, and you can select or deselect individual players, use Select All or Clear All, and add another player before saving.
The same player can belong to more than one saved group. A duplicate name is blocked only when that name is already present in the new group. Saving creates the new group without changing the original.
Optional “All Players” group
If you regularly build smaller groups from a larger pool, you may find it useful to keep a group named something like All Players. Copy it, name the new group for the day or event, tap Clear All, select the players you need, add anyone new, and save. This is optional; separate independent groups work just as well.
Attendance & Wait Next Game
After selecting a group, turn players on or off for the current session. New players added from the Attendance screen are available immediately and are selected for attendance by default.
Use Wait Next Game when a specific player should sit out the following game. Make the selection while the current game is still displayed, then tap Done – Go to Game X. CourtTempo carries that request into the next matchup and keeps the selected player in Waiting.
Courts
CourtTempo automatically calculates the maximum usable court count from the number of attendees. If fewer physical courts are available, reduce the court count before starting. Reset to Max returns to the automatic count.
Court labels can be customized when you want the app to match the names or numbers used at your facility.
Starting a Session
- Select the Player Group.
- Confirm who is attending.
- Confirm the number of available courts.
- Tap Go to Matchups.
- Review the player and court count.
- Tap Start Session.
The first matchup becomes the current game. Each active court contains exactly four players, and any remaining attendees appear in Waiting.
During Play
The current-game screen shows the game number, court assignments and waiting players. The top, lighter side of each court card serves first.
When the current game is finished, tap Done – Go to Game X. CourtTempo records that game as completed and advances to the next matchup. The app prepares upcoming games in the background so normal advancement stays fast.
Edit Courts
Use Edit Courts when the coordinator wants to manually change the current unplayed matchup. Tap two players to swap them. A swap can be made within the same court, between courts, or between a court and Waiting.
Manual coordinator changes are allowed even when they differ from the normal automatic scheduling preferences. Once accepted and played, the final lineup becomes authoritative session history.
Edit Setup During a Session
Use Edit Setup if attendance changes or the number of available courts changes during an active session. This is useful when a player arrives late, leaves early, or court availability changes.
Completed games are preserved. CourtTempo regenerates the current unplayed game from the updated setup and prepares the following game again in the background.
Game History
Completed games appear in Game History. Tap a game to review its court assignments and waiting players.
If Done was tapped accidentally, the most recent completed game can be restored as the current game. Older completed history is protected from repeated rewinding.
Scheduling Behavior
CourtTempo is designed to keep doubles sessions moving while protecting the partnership rules that are hardest to manage manually.
- Each active court contains exactly four players.
- A player does not repeat a partner inside that player’s current partner cycle.
- The same partnership is not scheduled in consecutive games.
- Wait Next Game is treated as an explicit coordinator request for the upcoming game.
- The established waiting rotation is followed whenever a complete legal matchup exists.
- If that exact waiting group cannot produce a legal complete game, CourtTempo makes the smallest necessary waiting-group adjustment and then continues the established rotation.
- Opponent variety, physical-court variety and serving-side balance are lower-priority preferences than the hard partnership and waiting requirements.
Partner cycles are personal to each player. A player becomes eligible to repeat earlier partners only after completing that player’s current cycle.
End Session & Session Reports
Tap End Session when play is finished. CourtTempo creates the session report before clearing the active session. Saved Player Groups remain available for future sessions.
Session reports are designed for troubleshooting and validation without exposing player names. Players are represented by anonymous labels such as P01, P02 and P03.
Reports can include completed games, the current uncompleted game, waiting summaries, partner summaries, serving-side summaries, manual coordinator adjustments, automatic waiting-order adjustments, and Wait Next Game audit information.
Import & Export Player Groups
Settings includes Player Group transfer tools. Export creates a portable copy of selected groups. Import lets you bring saved groups back into CourtTempo and resolve group-name conflicts before saving.
Import/export is intended for Player Group data; it does not rewrite completed session history.
Appearance
CourtTempo includes multiple accent themes. Changing the appearance affects the app’s colors without changing Player Groups, session history or scheduling behavior.
Troubleshooting
A player needs to sit out the next game
Select Wait Next Game while the current game is displayed, then advance normally. The request applies to the next generated matchup.
A player arrives or leaves mid-session
Use Edit Setup. Update attendance, confirm the available courts, and return to the session. Completed games remain unchanged.
The wrong game was marked finished
Open the most recent completed game in Game History and use Restore as Current Game when that option is available.
You need to override the automatic matchup
Use Edit Courts to swap players. The final accepted lineup becomes the authoritative matchup for that game.
